DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade expressed strong support to the country’s airline industry as he lauded Cebu Pacific (CEB) and its CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Lance Gokongwei for reaching an incredible milestone after the airline company awarded a lucky passenger as its 200 millionth passenger, Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
“Sa mga nanonood ng basketball, mayroong mga milestones at achievement. Kung may milestone ang basketball, hindi mawawala ‘yung tinatawag na milestone sa aviation,” Secretary Tugade said.
“Kaya nagsasama-sama tayo ngayon upang bigyang pagkilala ‘yung milestone na tinatawag na 200 millionth passenger of Cebu Pacific. ‘Yan ang tunay na milestone,” he added.
Secretary Tugade explained that his mere presence during Cebu Pacific’s milestone is his expression of support to Gokongwei and the airline after years of continued support from the government.
“Sinadya kong pumunta rito at sinabi ko kay Lance na this is one small gesture I can do for Lance and Cebu Pacific by being physically and personally present. Maliit na bagay ito kumpara sa ginawa na pagkilala, trust and confidence sa pamahalaang Duterte,” he said.
Sec. Tugade likewise cited the DOTr’s aviation sector support to airline companies through the night rating of airports and newly inaugurated airports such as the Bicol International Airport (BIA) and Clark International Airport (CRK) Passenger Terminal Building.
Joining Tugade during the ceremony were DOTr Undersecretary Giovanni Lopez, Undersecretary Raul Del Rosario, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, Assistant Secretary Jim Melo, and CAAP Chief-of-Staff Atty. Danjun Lucas.
