Truck runs over CvSU coeds; 1 killed, 4 hurt
INDANG, Cavite – One Cavite State University (CvSU) student was dead on the spot, and four other coeds were seriously hurt in Barangay Salusoy at CvSU Indang main campus when they were suddenly run over by a parked Mitsubishi Canter truck Monday, January 23, 2023.
Local authorities said the victims were a female 1st-year college student of CvSU Indang, of Barangay Luciano, Trece Martires City, who died on the spot; Fiona C. Gatchalian, 1st-year college student, of Bgy. Cabuco, Trece Martires City; Denise Chloe Ricohermoso of Bgy. Hugo Perez, Trece Martires City; Pauline E. Diga of Tambo Balagbag, Indang, Cavite; and Angelo Magno of Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
According to the police investigation, the driver of the truck, a resident of Binambangan St., Indang, Cavite, said that he allegedly forgot to engage the hand brake of the vehicle while parked and suddenly rolled unattended, hitting all five college students, which killed one instantly due to the impact.
The four other students sustained serious physical injuries on their bodies and were rushed to General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital (GEAMH) in Trece Martires City for medical attention.
Based on the initial investigation, the victims were seated near a swimming pool and reading their books when the truck suddenly moved forward, hitting them.
The truck driver is now facing charges of homicide, multiple serious physical injuries, and damage to property and is temporarily detained at the Indang lock-up center.
