Truck driver’s license suspended for ramming 16 concrete barriers on EDSA
THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended for 90 days the license of a truck driver who rammed at least 16 concrete barriers of the EDSA carousel in Quezon City yesterday morning.
According to LTO chief Asst. Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, an investigation was immediately conducted following the issuance of a show-cause order (SCO) on the registered owner of the dump truck.
The driver was also asked to surrender the driver’s license on the scheduled hearing date.
“Gusto nating malaman kung bakit nagresulta sa ganitong klaseng aksidente dahil hindi normal ang ganitong klaseng aksidente kung saan aararuhin mo yung mga concrete barriers,” Mendoza stressed.
LTO – Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante requested the registered owner to bring with her the driver on March 31 to explain what happened.
“In this specific investigation, we want to hear the side of the driver kung nasa kanya ba yung pagkukulang o masyado ng mahaba ang oras ng pagtatrabaho niya kaya nahantong sa ganito,” Mendoza said.
The registered owner was asked to explain why she should not be penalized for hiring a reckless driver while the driver was asked to explain why he should not be sanctioned for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The LTO said that failure to appear and submit written comment/ explanation as required shall be construed by this office as a waiver of the owner’s right to be heard.
