PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., on Thursday, announced the capture of a ranking New People’s Army (NPA) rebel in Central Visayas during a manhunt operation in Bohol province.

The top cop identified the suspect as alias “Archi/Atom”, listed in the PNP Periodic Status Report on CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)/NPA personalities as a member of the communist movement’s semi-legal team serving as a medic of the Bohol Party Committee Komiteng Rehiyon Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS).

Members of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion (IB) arrested the suspect in Barangay San Roque in Sagbayan, Bohol, around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, Azurin said, citing a report from Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) Director Brig. Gen. Roque Edgardo DP Vega.

The suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant for murder and frustrated murder with no bail recommended by Judge Adonis Laure of the Carmen, Bohol Regional Trial Court Branch 51 on September 1, 2021.

“The arrest of most wanted personalities is a product of effective intelligence strategy applied by our operatives along with positive response and cooperation of our community in support to our relentless campaign against criminals wanted by law,” Gen. Azurin said.

The accused is now under the custody of the Sagbayan Municipal Police Station.
