Tricycle sector
THE House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading the magna carta for the country’s tricycle drivers and operators.
Various quarters acknowledge that tricycles now play a vital role in speeding up the country’s socio-economic development.
This is especially true in communities throughout the Philippines.
That’s why we, as well-meaning Filipinos, commend members of the House of Representatives for approving the proposed law.
Last Wednesday, the lawmakers, numbering 180. unanimously approved House Bill (HB) No. 11227, a consolidation of six bills.
The proposed measure defines the rights of workers in the tricycle sector as well as the public and environmental safety.
HB No. 11227 also reaffirms the power of local government units (LGUs) to regulate tricycles and issue permits to operate.
However, it also lists down the duties and responsibilities of three concerned national government agencies.
These are the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The magna carta for tricycle drivers and operators is seen to benefit those in the tricycle sector, including the passengers.
Particularly in the countryside, where there is lack of transportation.
