Transport group leader offers solutions to end oil price hikes
A TRANSPORT group leader and fleet operator is proposing three solutions in answer to the weekly bulk increases of petroleum products, particularly diesel.
In an interview, lawyer Vigor Mendoza II, national chairman of the Kilusan ng Pagbabago sa Industriya ng Transportasyon (KAPIT) fleet operator and founder of Beef Jeep, said his group is looking at a mix of solutions in lieu of fare increases.
Mendoza suggested the suspension of excise tax on diesel fuel for transport, saying “P6 ang savings dito at napakalaking bagay nito sa transport.”
He also suggested that banks extend loan terms for thr public transport sector for two years.
Mendoza also suggested to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to increase the seating capacity of public utility vehicles (PUV)s
On Wednesday, transport groups led by Voltes-5 had filed a petition seeking a P3 fare increase before the LTFRB following the fuel price hikes.
“Dapang dapa na kami gusto pang pasagasaan sa pison,” lamented Orlando Marquez, national President of Liga ng Transportasyon at Operaytor sa Pilipinas (LTOP).
