Traffic congestion
THE public concedes that traffic congestion remains a major headache of motorists and commuters, mostly workers and students, in Metropolitan Manila (MM).
And the problem in MM and surrounding areas is seen to worsen when the targeted rehabilitation of historic EDSA (Epifanio delo Santos Avenue) starts this year.
But it is heartening to know that concerned government authorities are doing everything to ease the flow of traffic in the heavily-populated metropolis.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) plans to recommend to President Marcos that national government offices in MM adopt a new work schedule.
The proposed work schedule in these government offices is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work in government offices across the country starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes made the announcement after the recent meeting of members of the Metro Manila Council (MMC).
MMDA’s policy-making body is the powerful MMC, which is composed of all the mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR)..
Artes said the agency will submit its recommendation to the Office of the President (OP) after getting the approval of MM mayors.
He said “we’ll get first the consensus of the mayors,” adding “the recommendations will be in line with various experiences of each of the LGUs.”
Without doubt, the planned work schedule will go a long way in addressing the problem of traffic congestion in the NCR and neighboring towns and cities.
