A BUSINESSMAN was shot dead while his wife was critically wounded when they were ambushed by riding-in-tandem gunmen Wednesday evening in Caloocan City.

Penencio Dacuro, of Phase 2 GML Village, Lingonan, Valenzuela City, died on the spot from bullet wounds in the neck while his wife, Jennilyn, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where she was placed under observation.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said the victim was driving a Toyota Hi-Ace van with plate number NDA-8853 at around 7:50 p.m. on their way to Divisoria, with his wife beside him while three of their relatives were inside when riding-in-tandem criminals drove up to the driver’s window and opened fire when they reached 5th Avenue near corner Rizal Avenue Extension.

The victim totally lost control of the vehicle when hit by a bullet and accidentally stepped on the accelerator pad until it crossed the cemented barrier and rammed a concrete wall at the corner of M.H. Del Pilar and C-3 Road in Brgy. 133.

Elements of the West Grace Park Police Station immediately responded to the area after the victim’s relative Analiza Nicolas, who was also on board the vehicle along with two other relatives, were able to seek help.

Policemen are still conducting a follow-up operation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects while investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the ambush.
