Pushes for more worker benefits

TRABAHO Partylist emphasized the need to push for more non-wage benefits as it lauded the Marcos administration’s economic policies as the government has once again achieved another historic “all-time-low” unemployment rate.

Giving due credit to the Marcos administration’s policies, Trabaho Partylist also highlighted another milestone as the Philippines achieved the second highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the world during the second quarter of 2024.

Trabaho Partylist spokesperson Atty. Filemon Javier emphasized that the Marcos administration’s direction to strengthen the economy could not be more important, saying that it inherited various challenges from the previous administration.

Atty. Javier noted the 96.9% employment rate reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), another milestone Trabaho Partylist hailed as part of the agenda to improve job quality, push for decent wages and provide more non-wage benefits.

The partylist spokesperson also noted the crucial role of the “Build Better More” infrastructure program of the Marcos administration after the PSA reported that the huge job growth was a result of a “construction boom.”

The PSA reported a 16.1% increase in the Gross Fixed Capital Formation in construction during the second quarter of 2024, which according to Trabaho Partylist should also be credited to dedicated Filipino workers in the sector.

The Trabaho Partylist also recognized the administration’s role in adding nearly a million jobs in 2024, which was “definitely higher” compared to 2023, particularly in the sector of construction.

In line with these achievements, Atty. Javier said the Marcos administration should still create more policies to control inflation and improve quality of jobs, which were tagged as “most urgent national concerns” according to recently-concluded surveys.
