Trabaho Partylist disputes proposal to reduce non-working holidays
IN defense of Filipino workers, the Trabaho Partylist said it is opposing the proposal to reduce non-working holidays, stressing that there are more initiatives to focus on such as improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the economy.
Trabaho Partylist spokesperson Atty. Filemon Ray L. Javier said cutting non-working holidays will not offer any incentive nor benefit to Filipino workers, particularly rank-and-file employees.
Javier added.
The Trabaho Partylist believes non-working holidays are implemented to serve as not only rest days for workers but also as premium incentives for families of workers who would choose to work instead during holidays.
Atty. Javier said implementation of non-working holidays also coincide with the doctrine of holiday economics, which strengthens domestic tourism as workers are encouraged to enjoy local tourist spots across the country.
The partylist spokesman added that non-working holidays are also an opportunity for companies to conduct inventory, general cleaning and maintenance as well as the opportunity to rest.
