TRABAHO Partylist raised concerns over recent reports that the Social Security System (SSS) has failed to collect over P89.1 billion in premium contributions from 420,767 delinquent business employers and household employers as of yearend 2023.

This disclosure, made public in a report from the Commission on Audit (COA), has raised concerns about the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s primary social security agency.

TRABAHO Partylist spokesperson Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu noted that the uncollected funds could have been crucial in providing benefits to millions of SSS members and pensioners who rely on SSS benefits, particularly in times of sickness, unemployment, and old age.

The partylist called on the agency to account for these shortfalls and make immediate measures to recover the uncollected funds. This includes an implementation of a more transparent and aggressive strategy to collect unpaid contributions, added Atty. Espiritu.

He emphasized that the government should strengthen penalties for delinquent employers and enhance monitoring systems to ensure that all members are contributing their fair share. Atty. Espiritu further emphasized the need to address the issue as the agency has been planning to implement an increase in contributions to ensure the viability of the social security system.

As the nation faces ongoing economic challenges, the issue of uncollected SSS contributions has become even more pressing, with workers and retirees increasingly relying on the funds to support their families and sustain their livelihood.

TRABAHO Partylist remains committed to ensuring that the rights of Filipino workers are protected and that their contributions are properly managed for their benefit, noted Atty. Espiritu.
