TRABAHO Partylist advocates for worker-friendly solutions amid EDSA rehab
IN response to the recent announcement of the Department of Public Works and Highways on starting the major rehabilitation and upgrade of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) by the end of March, TRABAHO Partylist has voiced its proposed measures that would ease the burden of daily commuters, especially workers who rely on public transportation.
TRABAHO Partylist spokesperson Atty. Mitchell-David L. Espiritu called for companies to consider expanding flexible work arrangements, including remote work or hybrid setups.
“As we continue to navigate the challenges of urban congestion, companies should explore long-term solutions like remote working.
Employers should enable their workforce to adopt alternative work structures that reduce the need for daily commuting,” said Espiritu.
In addition, TRABAHO called for increased transportation allowances and subsidies for workers who still need to commute regularly.
“Many workers already spend a significant portion of their income on commuting. With the EDSA rehab project causing further disruptions, it’s essential for the government and businesses to provide transportation allowances to help workers offset the added costs,” said Atty. Espiritu.
For a sustainable and cost-effective solution, TRABAHO is also advocating for the promotion of carpooling and shared transportation systems.
Espiritu also pointed out that the increased travel times and stress from daily commuting could have a detrimental effect on workers’ physical and mental well-being, and recommended prioritizing worker-centric policies that alleviate these concerns.
TRABAHO, a partylist group focused on advocating for the welfare of workers and promoting employment policies, reiterated that whatever policy or arrangement will be adopted, the goals should be to ease the burden of the workers, who must likewise be consulted prior to its implementation.
