Top horses to settle score in P2.5-m Commissioners’ Cup

ONE of the most awaited rematches in local horseracing will take place at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park as the Carmona, Cavite track plays host to the P2.5-million 2022 Philracom Commissioners’ Cup.

Edward Vincent Diokno and former Commissioner Felizardo “Jun” Sevilla Jr.’s stalwart Sky Shot, Laiza D. Eje’s Boss Emong and Leonardo “Sandy”Javier’s Super Swerte in the 1600 meter race which offers P1.5-million to the winner, P500, 000.to the second placer, P250,000 to third, P125,000 to fourth P75, 000 for fifth and P50,000 for sixth.

It will be remembered that the three figured in a controversial 2021 Presidential Gold Cup last December where Sky Shot crossed the line first but was eventually disqualified after a protest was lodged by Super Swerte’s connections.

The focus will be on these three gallopers but four other runners, Best Regards, Pangalusian Island, Son Also Rises and War Cannon will also be there to try to play spoiler.

In the P750,000 Commissioners’ Cup Division II, nine gallopers are set to take to the track to vie for the P450-thousand winner’s prize. These are Victorious Colt, Arrabiata, Magtotobetski, Weather Lang, Flattering You, Batang Cabrera, Greatwall, Shining Vic and Isla Puting Bato.

While in the P500,000 Commisioners’ Cup Division III which offers P300,000 to the winner, twelve entries are set to challenge each other namely The Accountant, Refuse To Lose, Hook On D Run, La Liga Filipina, Full Control, Cam From Behind, Tiger Boy, Kid Baloloy, Gintong Tubig, Fortissimo, Bomod-Ok Falls and Spandau Ballet will battle it out in the 1600-meter journey.

Breeders of the too three finishers will get cash incentives for the Commissioners Cup equivalent to 5 percent to winner, 3 percent to the 2nd placer and 2 percent to 3rd placer.

Same percentages will apply to the Division II and III events. While riding fees for all jockeys are 1k for every one million in purse money.

Thus, jockeys who have mounts in Division I shall receive P2,500 for their effort, P750 per jockey for Division II and P500 per rider for Division III.

The breeders’ incentive and increased jockey riding fees are firsts for Philippine horseracing.

Philracom Chairman Aurelio “Reli” P. de Leon said, “Good luck to all the entries of the Commissioners’ Cup! Whoever wins here will be one step closer in getting the P1.5-million cash bonus awaiting the “sweeper” of the Triple Cup with the 1800-meter Philracom Classic next month at the Philippine Racing Club in Naic, Cavite and the lung-busting 2000-meter Chairman’s Cup in May at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas.”

“Furthermore, purses for all legs of the Triple Cup have been increased from P1-million last year to P2.5-million this year thus making for very interesting races for the bayang karerista” De Leon added.
