Tolentino1SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – Advanced technology can help ease the perennial problem of traffic, but discipline remains the primary factor to resolve it.

Thus said reelectionist Senator Francis ‘TOL’ Tolentino, as he led the inauguration of ‘smart’ traffic signalization systems in two busy districts in Laguna..

Tolentino spearheaded the unveiling of newly installed traffic lights in the cities of San Pablo and Calamba on Saturday morning. He was joined by local government leaders and transport officials.

“These modern traffic lights use advanced technology. They are equipped with camera sensors which enable the system to adjust its signals based on real-time traffic situations,” explained the senator.

“But while ‘smart’ technology can really help ease daily gridlocks in busy cities, I believe that the bottomline in resolving traffic is still discipline,” he noted.

“Discipline should be instilled in our drivers, riders, and motorists. Without it, no amount of advanced technology and traffic management would work,” the senator stressed.

Addressing the country’s traffic problem has long been Tolentino’s crusade, even when he was the Chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

“Efficient traffic management benefits the economy and the environment because it leaves less carbon footprints. It also ensures ease of movement for motorists and safer streets for bikers and pedestrians, especially the vulnerable, such as the elderly, women, and students,” the senator pointed out.

“May these traffic light systems serve your constituents and community well,” he concluded.

Tolentino’s program, a collaboration with the Department of Transportation and Land Transportation Office, involves the installation of traffic signalization systems in 15 priority intersections in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Previously, the senator led the unveiling of such projects in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite; Naga City, Camarines Sur; and Dumaguete City, Negros Island Region.
