Timely clarification

MALACANANG is not blocking impeachment moves against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte in the House of Representatives..

Malacanang explained that the Chief Executive was only stating his opinion on the matter.

Malacanang added it cannot dictate its wishes to Congress because the executive, legislative and judiciary are co-equal branches of the government.

“If the President has made a statement at all about that process (impeachment), it is only an opinion,” according to Malacanang, stressing that probably the thinking of President Marcos was that the process might be “distracting us from our agenda or our move forward.”

It will be recalled that last November, Marcos called on his colleagues in Congress not to waste time impeaching the Vice President.

Later, Marcos was reported to have said that it was not the time to go through such a process, citing the forthcoming mid-term elections.

Malacanang’s clarification is seen to stop all speculations about the reported attempts to derail the impeachment of Duterte.
