PRESIDENTIAL candidate Bongbong Marcos received an overwhelming show of support from residents of Mandaluyong City during the proclamation rally held on Sunday in the area dubbed as “Tiger City.”

Tens of thousands of supporters were already filling the wide street of Nueve de Febrero near Shaw Center Mall, the venue for the rally by mid-day, hours ahead of the program’s scheduled start.

Mandaluyong City is home to Benhur Abalos, who recently resigned as chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority to assume the post as UniTeam’s national campaign manager.

Abalos also served in the local government of Mandaluyong from 1995 to 2016 as councilor, mayor, and congressman.

“Matalino, pinaka-magaling at higit sa lahat may puso (referring to Marcos)… balik tanaw — May 5, 2016, halos six years ago sa lugar na ito kasama ko si Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez, ano ang nakuhang boto ni Marcos sa Mandaluyong? Dumadagundong, nanalo sa kalakhang Maynila,” Abalos said.

“Ngayon mas marami pa tayo, ito ay sigaw ng Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao, dumadagundong, ang susunod na presidente ng Pilipinas, ang ‘Tigre ng Norte,’” he added.

For his part, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer explained that they picked UniTeam for his tandem with Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte because they are united in the vision of resolving the problems that ail the country.

“Kami po ay tinatawag na UniTeam dahil unity po ang aming layunin at ating pangarap para sa sambayanang Pilipino, pinagkaisa kami kasama ni Inday Sara para resolbahin ang mga problema ng ating bansa,” he said.

Marcos also expressed gratitude to the people of Mandaluyong for the warm welcome and fervent support, as well as to the Abalos family, who organized the rally.

“Ako po ay nagbibigay pugay sa inyong lahat dahil sa suportang ibinigay niyo po sa akin at sa UniTeam, lalong-lalo na sa pamilyang Abalos,” he said.

The crowd went into a frenzy when actress and TV host Toni Gonzaga, came out on stage in the middle of the program to sing “Roar,” especially when she came to the line “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter.”

She called on the huge throng to ensure BBM-Sara UniTeam’s victory on May 9.

Based on the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) estimate, more than 30,000 supporters attended the event to see Marcos in person and listen to his speech as well as the UniTeam’s senatorial candidates.

Validating the estimate, a drone shot the massive crowd occupying the stretch of Nueve de Febrero and the streets of F. Martinez Avenue and Fabella Road.

The supporters went home euphoric and filled with hope that a new day is dawning for the country under the leadership of BBM-Sara UniTeam and their senatorial bets.
