VIVA Live Inc. presents another streaming concert titled “This Bandang Juans” with three of the biggest bands in the Pinoy pop music scene today: This Band, Bandang Lapis and The Juans, all legitimate movers and shakers in the local band scene today.
This Band is behind the monster hit “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na”, the biggest song of 2018 that has over 106.8 million streams on Spotify and more than 50 million accumulated views on YouTube. It has since become the breakout hit of this sextet that includes lead vocalist Andrea Manzano, guitarist-songwriter Euwie Von Loria, keyboardist Melvin Carson, lead guitarist Raymart Gubat, bassist Miccael Galvan and drummer John Macaranas. Their other hits are “Hindi Na Nga” (with over 76 million streams on Spotify alone), “’Di Na Babalik” (43.3 million) and “Nang Iwan” (16.5 million), making them one of the most listened-to groups of the last 3 years.
Bandang Lapis is a surprise group that hit it big in 2020 with their elegiac song “Kabilang Buhay”, the de facto anthem and hit during the first few months of the pandemic. The biggest breakout band of 2020, “Kabilang Buhay” now has over 50.1 million views for their music video, 63.4 million views for their Wish Bus performance, and over 35.4 million streams on Spotify.
Bandang Lapis, the Rizal-based group, includes lead vocalist Lesther Abano, guitarists Mark Jay Nievas, Ryan Paul Marangga, Lenrey Jamorol Beltran, drummer Leandro Repuno, spoken word-and-rapper Mark Ivan Morallos and keyboardist Jomari Luna. Their other hits are “Sana’y Di Na Lang,” “Nang Dumating Ka” and “Kung San Ka Masaya.”
The Juans started with early fan-fave hits such as “Atin Ang Mundo”, “Magkasama”, “Nasayang Lang” and “Prom.” Their current hits are “’Hindi Tayo Pwede,” “Istorya,” and “Pangalawang Bitaw.”
The Juans consists of singers Carl Guevarra, Japs Mendoza, rhythm guitarist RJ Cruz, bassist Chael Adriano and drummer Joshua Coronel. They have amassed a considerable catalog that many of their fans and casual listeners can relate to.
The Juans just keep getting better at dishing hits as their recent singles “Dulo” and “Anghel” continue to match and shatter the group’s previous accomplishments. The Juans have almost 140 million streams on Spotify alone on about 10 of their most popular singles to date and are still growing.
These three bands will perform together in “This Bandang Juans” on November 20, 2021 streaming on KTX.ph, iWantTFC and TFC IPTV. How is it performing with each other?
“It’s surreal, very exciting” says Carl Guevarra who’s the most articulate among them. “We will be singing together in production numbers and it’s something we’ve never tried before. It’s such a rewarding feeling to be working with them as everyone is willing to give their best. They’re all hardworking. Walang nagko-complain. I can see their hunger as a creative artist and they’re all eager to make the show a success. So kami sa Juans, we’re encouraged. Kailangan galingan natin ito kasi ang mga kasama natin are all giving their best.”
“We’re sobrang thrilled,” says Melvin Carson of This Band. “Hinahangaan ko talaga ang The Juans. I’ve been following them since 2017 with their ‘Nasayang Lang’ single. Then the pandemic happened and Bandang Lapis naman, sumikat with ‘Kabilang Buhay’ and now, we’re so happy we are all together in this concert.”
“When we learned we’ll collaborate with them, we all got excited,” says Andrea Manzano, also of This Band, the only rose among the thorns. “Sobrang salamat sa Viva for the opportunity na ito to perform with them. I am so blessed na nakasama ko silang lahat kasi I can their really feel their passion for music at nakakahawa yun.”
Each band will perform their original hits in the concert, but they also composed an original song, “Magkikita”, just for this show.
“We’ve shot the concert at the newly renovated Metropolitan Theater and this is a big production number,” says Carl. “The song is timely sa pandemic kasi we are all eager to see our loved ones again after the lockdown. It’s inspirational, encouraging people na huwag sumuko dahil makikita rin nila uli ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay. It’s feel good song we wrote in a studio.
Nagkakahiyaan pa kami sa simula, then lines stated cropping up and we’re able to finish the entire song in just about an hour.
“Everyone threw in their own ideas. In just one day, we have made our demo. Nakakatuwa and I admire everyone’s humility. Walang nagpabida-bida, walang paastigan. Sa rehearsals, sa meetings namin, everyone is so eager to give their hard work. Director Paul Basinillo made sure everyone is given their own moment in the show. He worked it all out with us, from the background videos, the treatment for each number, trinabaho niya talaga with us and you can see it all in the concert.”
