THOUSANDS of movie fans lined up the streets in CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) to see celebrities aboard decorative floats during the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival Parade of Stars last Saturday.

Ten floats of all movie entries traversed the 8.7-kilometer distance from the Navotas Centennial Park to the Valenzuela People’s Park where the meet and greet with the stars took place.

For the first time since the inception of Metro Manila Film Festival, the Parade of Stars traversed four cities in Metro Manila.

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and MMFF Selection Committee Head Boots Anson-Rodrigo struck the gong which signaled the start of the parade.

Artes, along with the Mayors Tiangco, Sandoval, Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian and Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan encouraged the public to watch all the MMFF 2023 entries.

Ten film entries were selected for this year’s MMFF. These are Firefly, When I Met You In Tokyo, Rewind, Broken Hearts Trip, Mallari, Penduko, Gomburza Family Of Two, K(a)mpon, And Becky & Badette.

Packed with a mixture of genres such as drama, romance, action, horror, and history, MMFF 2023 encapsulates the colorful culture and history of the country through modern storytelling.

Gracing the Parade of Stars were Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Sharon Cuneta, Piolo Pascual, Vilma Santos, Eugene Domingo, and Alden Richards among many others who campaigned for their films.

Valenzuela City served as the end-point of the parade, following a closing program and film showing at the Valenzuela City People’s Park and Amphitheater.

Thousands of Valenzuela residents gathered to witness the movie entries of MMFF 2023. The stage was also given to the cast and production staff to promote their films.

The 49th MMFF will run from December 25 to January 7, 2024 in Philippine theaters.

The 10 films will compete for the festival awards to be presented during the Gabi ng Parangal on December 27.

This year’s MMFF is presented in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
