Tina1Tina2Tina3Tina4Tina5Tina6INTERNATIONAL music icon, Grammy award-winner singer-hitmaker, dancer, actress, book author, American-born and naturalized Swiss national, the “Queen of Rock `n Roll” Tina Turner (Anna Mae Bullock-Bach), 83, died of multiple illnesses last Wednesday, May 24, 2023 sa kanyang mansion sa Kusnacht, Zurich, Switzerland where she moved in 1994. She was born on November 26, 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, USA. Siya’y bunso sa tatlong magkakapatid (all girls) ng dating mag-asawang Floyd Richard Bullock at Zelma Priscilla Currie. Si Evelyn Juanita Currie ay half-sister niya sa mother side habang biological sister naman niya si Ruby Alline Bullock.

Eleven years old si Tina nang maghiwalay ang kanyang mga magulang. Umalis ang kanyang ina dahil sa kanyang abusive father who married another girl at silang magkakapatid ay naiwan sa pangangalaga ng kanilang maternal grandmother. When she turned 16, she lived with her mother matapos sumakabilang-buhay ang kanilang lola.

All her life, naramdaman ni Tina that the was unloved and unwanted by her parents at ito’y nakasulat sa kanyang unang autobiography book, ang “I, Tina: My Life Story” released in 1986.

Tina was in her senior high school when she got pregnant sa kanyang first son na si Craig Hill (born on August 20, 1958) sa kanyang dating boyfriend na si Raymond Hill. Craig was adopted by her first husband, ang singer-performer na si Ike Turner, ama ng kanyang second son na si Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Renelle Turner na isinilang nung October 27, 1960. At that time, Ike had two other sons from his previous relationships na inampon naman ni Tina as her own sons.

Craig was found dead sa isang apartment nung July 2018 at ito’y hinihinalang suicide. Si Ronnie naman ay nag-asawa sa isang French singer, si Afida Turner at nagkaroon si Tina ng dalawang apo rito. Namatay naman si Ronnie dahil sa kumplikasyon sa colon cancer nung isang taon (2022).

Ronnie used to play bass guitar sa isang band, ang Manufactured Funk and sometimes played for the respective bands of his separated parents na sina Ike at Tina.

Tina filed for a divorce nung July 27, 1976 mula sa kanyang unang husband na si Ike na kanyang pinakasalan in 1962 dahil sa abusive use of cocaine and their divorce got finalized in 1978.

Nung 2013, she married German record producer Erwin Bach who is about 16 years her junior. But three weeks after her marriage to Erwin ay na-stroke siya at sumailalim ng therapy para muling makalakad.

Three years later in 2016, Tina was diagnosed of intestinal cancer and she was also hypertensive. She signed up with Exit for an assisted suicide procedure pero inalok ng kanyang second husband na si Erwin ang isa niyang kidney kaya sumailalim siya ng kidney transplant nung April 7, 2017.

Matagal nang may mga iniindang sakit si Tina at kasama na rito ang kidney failure, hypertension, intestinal cancer at iba pang kumplikasyon.

Tina was a self-professed tomboy. She was a church choir member when she was young sa Nutbush’s Spring Hill Baptist Church. Namasukan siya noon bilang domestic helper at pagkatapos ng high school ay namasukan naman siyang nursing aid sa Barnes – Jewish Hospital.

Si Tina ay nagsimulang maging aktibo sa professional singing in 1957 and retired from performing in 2009 matapos ang kanyang 50th anniversary tour, ang “Tina! 50th Anniversary Tour” which turned out to be the highest grossing tour of the 2000’s.

In 2018, her life and songs where made into a musical, “Tina”.

She is considered one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, garnering 12 Grammy Awards at kasama na rito ang tatlong Grammy Hall of Fame at Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Si Tina rin ang kauna-unahang black artist at kauna-unahang babaeng naging cover ng Rolling Stone Magazine where she was described as one of the Greatest Singers of All Time. Meron din siyang sariling Star sa Hollywood Walk of Fame maging sa St. Louis Walk of Fame and twice inducted into the Rock `n Roll Hall of Fame – one with her ex-husband na si Ike Turner in 1991 at pangalawa as a solo artist in 2021.

In 2005, Tina was a recipient ng Kennedy Center Honoree and Women of the Year Award.

Tina used to sing with her ex-husband Ike Turner sa Ike Turner Kings of Rhythm na nagsimula in 1957. Her first hit record ay pinamagatang “Boxtop” which was released in 1958 at Little Ann pa ang kanyang gamit na pangalan noon. Two years later ay inilabas ang first hit duet nila ni Ike, ang “A Fool In Love”.

Ang stage team-up noon nina Ike at Tina ay kinilalang “One of the most formidable live acts in history”.

The former couple delivered other hit songs tulad ng “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine,” “River Deep – Mountain High,” “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits” in 1976, their last as a couple or duet.

Nung 1980, Tina made her major comeback bilang solo artist na itinuturing na `greatest comeback in music history’. It was in 1984 nang ilabas ang kanyang multi-platinum album na “Private Dancer” kung saan nakapaloob ang awiting “What’s Love Got To Do With It” na nanalo ng Grammy Awards’ Record of the Year, and her first and only hit song na pumasok sa Billboard Hot 100. She was 44 years old at that time, the oldest female solo artist na pumasok sa Billboard’s Top 100.

Ang “What’s Love Got To Do With It” ay nasundan ng “Better Be Good To Me,” “Private Dancer,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero,” “Typical Male,” “The Best,” “I Don’t Wanna Fight” and “Golden Eye.”

Taong 1988 nang magkaroon ng world tour si Tina, ang “Break Every Rule World Tour” na ang isa niyang performance ay umabot ng 180,000 ang tao at ito’y pumasok sa Guinness of World Records. She was also an actress who acted in 17 films at kasama na rito ang “Tommy” movie in 1975, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” in 1985 at ang 1993 na “What’s Love Got To Do With It” which was adapted from her autobiography book, “I, Tina: My Life Story”.

Samantala, nang makipaghiwalay siya sa unang mister na si Ike Turner, naharap sa maraming law suits si Tina dahil sa mga hindi natuloy ng gigs nila ng dating asawa. Pero tinulungan siya ng Capitol Records na ma-settle ang kanyang mga utang.

Bago nag-settle si Tina sa kanyang Chateau Algonquin mansion in Kusnacht na malapit sa shore ng Lake Zurich in Switzerland, she used to own properties in Cologne, London and a villa in The French Riviera named Anna Fieur maging sa Los Angeles, California.

Ang mga ari-arian ni Tina ay maiiwan sa kanyang German husband na si Erwin Bach, her two adopted sons (from his ex-husband na si Ike Turner) at sa dalawang apo sa kanyang namayapang anak na si Ronnie Turner.
