Teodosio captures first gold in ICTSI athletics tourney

ILAGAN City — Aira Teodosio of Silay, Negros Occidental is hoping to make it back to the national team.

And she sure made a good account of herself when she captured the first gold medal in the ICTSI- Philippine Athletics Championships at the Ilagan City Sports Complex here Wednesday.

Teodosio, who is representing City of Ilagan in the five-day competition organized by the Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Associaiton and supported by CEL Logistics, topped the women’s open discus throw event with 38.46 meters.

She won over Chrizzel Lanipa of University of the Philippines (35.44) and Kenneth Grace Ferrera of the Philippine Air Force (34.03).

“Sana po makasama uli ako sa national team.” said the 27-year-old, who thanked her coaches and supporters for her success.

“Maraming salamat po kay Mam Drolly, Coach Arnel at pati na din sa City of Ilagan, kung hindi dahil sa inyo wala po kami ngayon dito” added Teodosio, who is best remembered for finishing fourth in the hammer throw in the 2019 Manila SEA Games where she posted a personal best of 47.13 meters.

“Hindi ko inaasahang mananao dahil akala ko may mga kalaban akong foreigners,” explained Teodosio, who will also compete in the shotput (Thursday) and hammer throw (Saturday)

“Ginawa ko talaga yun best ko at masaya ako sa runner-up finish ko dito,” said the 20-year-old Lanipa in the event also participated by athletes from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Iraq.

Also, Mark Paladius of Sabah.Malaysia bagged the gold medal in the men’s under-20 long jump with 6.84 meters.

Renchard Pagulayan of University of Santo Tomas settled for silver medal (6.80) and Alvin Lopez Jr. of La Paz Tracksters got the bronze medal (6.75).

Meanwhile, Jocelle Lesti of City of Ilagan bested Kelly Mariz Tagacay of NPAA-Tuguegarao City and Jhennah Mae Guillermo of City of Ilagan.in shot put,

Lesti finished at 8.35 meter to capture the gold medal. Tagacay had 7.74 meter for silver and Guillermo had 7.66 for the bronze.

In javelin, Janine Ledina of University of Baguio pocketed the gold medal in women under-20 after throwing 36.85 against Janella Salaan of Diagyan National High School (21.25) and Sharlyn Mae Joy Murillo of Team Baguio (18.07).
