THE government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) donated US$400,000 to the Republic of the Philippines as a disaster relief fund to assist those affected by the recent storm Paeng (Nalgae).

Representative Peiyung Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) handed over the donation to Silvestre H. Bello III, Chairman and Resident Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).

As the closest neighbor of the Philippines, the people of Taiwan sympathize with the victims worst affected by the Tropical Storm Paeng (Nalgae), Hsu said.

The TECO Representative expressed Taiwan’s sincere condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families hit by the calamity, and sincerely hoped that the disaster areas will be rehabilitated earlier and the victims will return to their normal lives as soon as possible.

Bello, for his part, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the government and the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their generosity and camaraderie on behalf of the Philippines.

The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has donated USD $1.1 million (php $ 63 million peso) to the government of the Philippines for disaster relief last year.

Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the Philippines on disaster prevention and climate resilience, and strengthen bilateral ties, including areas on agriculture, education, and tourism etc., to further enhance the well-being of both peoples.
