A MONSTER crowd of more than 20,000 Palayanos gathered here to witness the grand proclamation rally of the ruling party’s PDP (Partido Demokratiko Pilipino)-Laban slate for the city’s local candidates on Thursday night here.

PDP-Laban bet, reelectionist Nueva Ecija third district Rep. Rosanna “Ria” Vergara, who was overwhelmed with the huge turnout, likened the grand rally here to those similarly staged earlier by the camp of former senator and UniTeam presidential bet Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) which drew mammoth crowds in their rallies in many parts of the country.

“Ang dame pong (tao) para po itong rally ni BBM. Ang dami pong nagmamahal sa pamilya Cuevas, sa Team Cuevas. Maraming-maraming salamat po,” Vergara told the crowd gathered at the Palayan City baseball field in front of the provincial TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) office.

In their speeches, gubernatorial bet and city mayor Adrianne Mae “Rianne” Cuevas and her vice gubernatorial-running mate, Edward Thomas F. Joson wooed Palayanos into voting the entire Team Cuevas slate from the top two provincial posts and two board members, and the third district congressional bet down to the city mayor, vice mayor, and 10 councilors.

“Paki-marites niyo po, gawin niyo akong gobernador,” said Cuevas, who was endorsed earlier by no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as his gubernatorial bet in Nueva Ecija.

Also taking the limelight was Viandrei Nicole “Vianne” Cuevas, the city mayor’s 26-year-old daughter, who is seeking to replace her mother as this city’s next local chief executive in the May 9 polls.

In her speech, Vianne, who went home from her master’s studies in the United Kingdom due to the pandemic two years ago, revealed that it was her who brokered a deal with her mother that she would only run for mayor if her mother would aim for the governorship.

Other bets that rendered speeches were reelectionist board members EJ Joson and Jojo Matias and the entire 10-man city council bets led by reelectionist Vice Mayor Moises Carmona Jr.

Also bringing entertainment and fun to the event was the special participation of showbiz personalities – Meg Imperial and McCoy De Leon.

Provincial Police Director Col. Jess B. Mendez, who dropped by to check on the security measures employed by City Police Chief Lt. Col. Renato C. Morales at the site, said the holding of the event was generally peaceful.

“Pinupuntahan ko talaga ang mga lugar na tulad nito na napakaraming tao upang tingnan kung maayos ang seguridad,” Mendez said.

Mendez placed the total crowd estimate at 18,000 to more than 20,000.
