Teaching of life skills in public and private schools pushed

ISABELA 6th District Representative Faustino “Inno” Dy V is pushing for the approval of his House Bill (HB) Nos. 3607 or the National Research Council of the Philippines Act and 1208 or the inclusion of a Life Skill Course in the curriculum of both in the public and private schools.

Dy, chairman of the special committee on bases conversion, said HB 3607 seeks to strengthen the NCRP for the promotion of research work along scientific lines.

It also seeks to provide the government a helping hand in the field of research in order to produce comprehensive policies and laws based on reliable foundation and studies.

According to Dy, the NCRP will serve as lead agency in the conduct of studies in science through the National Training Program in their respective satellites offices, including the NCRP National Training Institute.

If enacted into law, the Isabela solon said the NCRP will be recognized as the lead and the best organization in the field of research which could be a big help in the development of the country.

Meanwhile, Dy said that under HB No. 1208, the topics included in the “Course on Life Schools” are the following; Drivers and Pedestrian Education, Education Overview of Taxation, Government 101, Basic Personal Finance, Social Media Literacy and Data Privacy Rights, Career 101 or the production of resumes and the proper answers on interviews.

He pointed out that this will be spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Education (DepEd) with the help of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), University of the Philippines (UP), organization of teachers in the Country and the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Dy added the bill also seeks to widen the knowledge and ability of the youth so they can be active members in their respective communities and be ready for challenges in life.
