A CITYWIDE tuberculosis (TB) education campaign dubbed as “Tibay ng Dibdib, TB ay Labanan Para sa Batang Caloocan” was launched on Monday at the Buena Park Sports Complex in Caloocan city.

Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan said the project aims to disseminate the level of awareness and understanding of every citizen about tuberculosis through online learning of students.

The Tibay ng Dibdib campaign was accomplished through the initiatives of the local government of Caloocan and the city’s School Division Office, in cooperation with the Department of Education, Department of Health, National Tuberculosis Control Program, United States Agency International Development’s TB Platforms and University Research Company.

Symptoms of tuberculosis were also discussed such as excessive night sweating, frequent fever, loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss, chills, and cough that last more than three weeks.

People who have a much higher chance of getting TB are those who smoke, aged 60 and above, those who once have a TB infection or someone in their household was infected by TB, have health problems like diabetes, cancer, HIV or undergoing dialysis.

“Kasabay ng pandemyang Covid-19, kinakailangan din natin bigyan pansin ang iba pang pangangailangang serbisyong medikal at information awareness higit na sa mga kabataan ng iba pang sakit gaya ng TB,” Mayor Oca said.
