THE Taguig City Police nabbed Joel Tiñga , an alleged member of a drug syndicate, in a buy-bust operation on Tuesday, June 18.

Tiñga, previously sentenced with life imprisonment, was arrested along MLQ Street in Barangay Lower Bicutan at 11:40 p.m. after he allegedly sold a police-poseur buyer shabu and was found in possession of eight sachets of the illegal drug worth approximately P 360,400.

The operation was part of the police’s recent intensified operations against criminality that led to the confiscation of significant amount of illegal drugs and the arrest of four other people for various criminal offenses.

In September 2016, a regional trial court found the suspect guilty of the offense and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He appealed the conviction before the Court of Appeals, which upheld the RTC’s decision on May 23, 2018. But the Supreme Court, in a June 2021 decision, overturned the CA decision, noting procedural breaches and lapses.

Police records show that he was also arrested last June 30, 2023, for allegedly selling and possession of illegal drugs.

“Joel Tiñga’s rearrest is a testament to the Philippine National Police’s commitment to eradicating illegal drugs from our community,” said Taguig Chief of Police PCol. Christopher Olazo.

The Taguig Police has been credited for placing prominent members of the Tiñga Drug syndicate and other high-value drug personalities behind bars.

Another suspected member of the syndicate, Elisa “Ely” Tiñga, was sentenced to life imprisonment in February 2017.

She was also the seventh member of the drug syndicate to be arrested and jailed.
