THE Philippine National Police leadership yesterday described as an ‘isolated incident’ a tragic shooting case inside the Taguig City Police Station which left one cop dead after being shot by his colleague at the height of their heated argument last Monday.

PNP Public Information Office chief Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan said they also ‘stand united in expressing our profound sorrow regarding the regrettable episode that transpired within the confines of the Taguig City Police Station Community Affairs Section.”

“This unfortunate event has led to the untimely and tragic loss of Police Executive Master Sergeant Heriberto Saguiped, while also resulting in the injury of Police Corporal Alison Sindac. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the affected individuals and their families during this grievous time,” he added.

PNP Chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. has ordered all concerned police officers to expedite the procedures associated with the processing of benefits and claims for the bereaved family members.

“We will ensure that all necessary financial and other forms of assistance are promptly provided to alleviate the burdens faced by the aggrieved parties,” Brig. Gen. Maranan said.

According to the official, the initial investigations into the incident have led the PNP to focus on the individual demeanor caused by underlying medical conditions that appear to have precipitated this unfortunate event.

“However, our primary focus at this juncture rests squarely on providing immediate support to the aggrieved family and the proper care of PCpl Alison Sindac, who remains in recovery,” he said.

He added that the course of action concerning the policeman-suspect, Chief Master Sgt. Al-Rakib Aguel who sustained injuries as a fellow officer intervened to stop the threat, will be established subsequent to his medical discharge.

“This will be done with a commitment to uphold due process and ensure accountability,” the PNP-PIO chief said.

Brig. Gen. Maranan also reassured the public that the PNP remains steadfast in its commitment to undertake a thorough inquiry into the causes of this regrettable occurrence.

“Our resolve to uncover the truths remains undeterred, and we will explore every avenue to bring clarity to this isolated event. Our collective assurance is that justice will be diligently pursued and unequivocally served,” he said.

“We ardently appeal to the public for their understanding and patience as we navigate this situation. Rest assured, the PNP’s pledge to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of justice stands unshaken,” he added.
