T2000 bags ERJHS title

DEFENDING champion T2000 displayed too much class in beating Batch 93, 102-79, to retain the title in the 2023 ERJHS Alumni Sports Club basketball tournament at the Barangay N.S. Amoranto covered court in Malaya St. Quezon City.

T2000 relied on the 1-2 punch of brothers Mark and Jeff Caguisa in a long scoring run bridging the second and third quarters to turn a close contest into a rout.

Joseph Bognot added 15 points and Chris Santiago contributed 13 points for T2000, which completed an eight- game sweep of the month-long tournament.

Joseph Magpantay carried the fight for Batch 93 of coach Rafhael Fidelson and Dave Oracion with 17 points.

Allan Baterina added 12 markers.

ASC president Ed Andaya of Batch 81 awarded the trophies and medals to the winners, assisted by Ms. ERJHS Alumni Jean Wenceslao, Ramon Ypil of Batch 83, Jane Jimenez of Batch 85 and Melissa Cabalic of Batch 89.

Named as Most Valuable Player of the tournament is Jeff Caguisa.

The Caguisa brothers led the Mythical Five along with Magpantay of Batch 93, Alvin Tanare of Batch 89 and Joseph Realista of Team 80s.

Voltaire Penaga of Team 80s, Jon Cano of Batch 89, Jeri Santos of Batch 93, Chris and Jay Santiago of T2000 composed the second team.

Aside from the trophy and medals, T2000 received free accomodation at the Camp Pulong Gubat Wavepool Resort in Cuenca, Bulacan.

Caguisa and his family will also receive the same prize.

The other members of the champion team are Kelvin Pantaleon, Jupiter Velchez, Chris Jhon Abella, Norberto Punzal, Ryan Geneta, Teddy Cordeta and Jonathan Bogane.

In the battle for third place, Batch 89 outsteadied Team 80s, 68-67.

Benjamin Baet scattered 15 points to power Batch 89 to victory.

Erwin Tempngko added 12 points, Jon Cano had 11 points and Jonathan Puzon had 10 for Batch 89.

Mike Gomez paced Team 80s with 30 points, followed by Penaga with 18.

In volleyball, Batch 94 emerged as champion following a thrilling five-set victory over Team 80s in their winer-take-all championship last May 7.

Batch 96 wound up third.

The tournament is supported by Barangay N.S. Amoranto, headed by chairman Ato De Guzman, Batch 76, William Chua of PingPing Lechon and Wang’s Ballclub. AA
