SUV hits 2 motorbikes in Batangas, 2 drivers killed

A 34-YEAR-OLD pipe fitter and a tricycle driver died after the motorcycles they were driving were hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along the highway Tuesday in Bgy. As-is, Bauan, Batangas, according to a police report.

Bauan Municipal Police Station commander Lt Col Karlos P. Lanuza identified the fatalities as Henry Pasia, married, a native of Rosario town and resident of Bgy As-is and Norberto Rabacid, 63, married, a native of San Jose Del Monte Bulacan and resident of Bgy. Poblacion 1, Bauan

The suspect who is now under police custody was identified as Romeo Evangelista, 42, single, native of Anao, Tarlac, and residing in Bagong Tanyag, Taguig City.

Initial investigation by PEMS Raymond Matibag, P/Cpl Ronilo Recio Jr., and Pat Enrique Efren Serwelas, Jr. said the white sports utility vehicle (SUV) with plate No. GAN 6724, driven by Evangelista was traversing the highway in Bgy As-is and was headed towards Bauan when it accidentally hit the two motorcycles driven by the two fatalities in front of him at about 2:30 p.m.

The SUV collided with a Ford Ranger (C3 S565) driven by Edgar Patrick Macatangay, 41, a businessman, of Bgy. Gulod Labac, Batangas City.

The two drivers were immediately brought to the Bauan General Hospital where Pasia was declared dead on arrival by Dra. Maria Rosario Bato at about 3:10 p.m.

Rabacid expired at 4:05 p.m., according to Dr. Celso Magpantay
