Suspect in slaying of city hall worker nabbed

ANGELES CITY — Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. yesterday announced the arrest of a suspect in the killing of a city hall employee last December 28.

Suspect Francis Cunanan, of Purok 5, Bgy. Manibaug, Porac town, was arrested by members of the Mexico police led by Maj. Louie Sason

Victim EJ Antonio Gabriel, a 40-year-old legislative staff member of Angeles City councilor Alfie Bonifacio, was found dead in Bgy. San Juan, Mexico.

Witness Ricky Dunglao, of Makabakle, Dolores, City of San Fernando identified Cunanan as the one responsible for the death of Gabriel, who went missing on December 27.

Before he went missing, Gabriel allegedly attended a Christmas party in an undisclosed place and carrying with him P60,000 cash as payroll for the staff members of councilor Bonifacio.

Gabriel’s vehicle was recovered at the Bulaon Public Market in the City of San Fernando.

Lazatin commended the responding police for the immediate arrest of Cunanan in Barosa, Phase 1, Road 5, this city. He vowed to the family of Gabriel that justice will be served.

Mexico Municipal Police Station chief Lt. Col. Grace Yerro Naparato said charges for robbery with homicide and carnapping were filed against Cunanan before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in the City of San Fernando.

The LGBTQ+ members of Angeles City condemned the killing of Gabriel and asked for a thorough investigation.
