Suspect in slay of ‘barker’ for P5 killed in shootout
MORE than one month in hiding, the taxi driver who shot a barker over P5 in Quezon City last February was killed in an alleged shootout in Antipolo City, Rizal, on Thursday.
The suspect was killed on the spot by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Barangay San Jose at around 12 noon.
Police said the suspect was the target of a buy-bust operation following reports he was involved in gunrunning activities.
It was learned that the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun of unknown caliber and opened fire at policemen.
Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, said the suspect was the one who shot a “barker” in Barangay Milagrosa last Feb. 20.
The taxi driver allegedly got irked and shot the barker after it asked for five pesos as payment for a passenger who boarded his taxi. A stray bullet also hit a girl on her left hand.
