THE principal suspect in the murder of a grade 12 student on Sunday in Caloocan City was arrested in a follow-up operation Monday before dawn in Valenzuela City.

Caloocan Police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said elements of Bagong Barrio Police Sub-Station led by P/Lt. Julius Villafuerte arrested Mark Roland Abrazaldo, 19, of Brgy. 133 at around 2 a.m. in Phoenix gas station, NLEX service road, Valenzuela City.

Police failed to recover from the suspect the gun he used in the gruesome killing of Angelo Catalan, 20, of Brgy. 133 Bagong Barrio but the green and yellow hip hop he wore during the commission of the crime was retrieved from him.

Mina said several witnesses saw the victim being chased by Abrazaldo and his unidentified companion at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday along Sigarillas Alley, Brgy. 133 and when cornered, shot him once in the head, point-blank.

The suspects, after the killing, immediately fled towards Bitsuellas Alley.

Responding elements of Bagong Barrio Police Sub-Station rushed the victim to the nearest hospital when they noticed that he was still breathing but was later pronounced dead upon arrival.

Homicide investigator P/Cpl. Randy Magastino said the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined while a follow-up operation for the arrest of the suspect’s cohort is still ongoing.
