Suspect falls for abducting minors in QC

AUTHORITIES arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly abducting three minors in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City.

Police Lt. Col. Mark Janis Ballesteros, the chief of Talipapa Police Station PS (Police Station) 3, said the suspect was a resident of Bgy. Bago Bantay, QC.

The report showed that at about 2:45 p.m. on December 13, 2022, the suspect appeared in San Beda Libis, Bgy. Bahay Toro, told the residents that he was “robbed” near SM Cherry Fooderama, located along Congressional Avenue, but he managed to escape.

Residents, including the parents of the victims, took care of of the suspect and even gave him water to calm him down.

However, upon seeing chances, the suspect held the three minors, aged nine; 12; and 13 years old, and allegedly promised that they will eat in a fast food chain and that he will give them clothes.

They walked along the stretch of Congressional Ave. and Visayas Ave. until they reached Tandang Sora. He even flagged down a taxi, but the driver refused.

Subsequently, bystanders noticed the suspect acting suspiciously, prompting them to seek assistance from a patrolling officer and BPSOs (barangay public safety officers) nearby, who immediately responded and negotiated with the suspect.

Despite the suspect’s resistance, policemen eventually arrested him and rescued the minors.

The suspect is now under the custody of PS 3 and will be charged with kidnapping and RA (Republic Act) 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director P/Brig. Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III commended concerned citizens who immediately reported the incident, which led to the immediate arrest of the suspect and rescue of the minors.

“I urge the public, especially the parents, to be extra vigilant and closely monitor their children to avoid such incidents,” he added.
