Sunod-sunod na raid ng BOC pinuri ng ACT-CIS
PINURI ni ACT-CIS party-list at Benguet Rep. Eric Yap ang Bureau of Customs (BOC), na pinamumunuan ni Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, bunsod nang sunud-sunod at matagumpay na raid na isinagawa ng mga ito sa tatlong bodega sa Metro Manila at Subic, Zambales na nagresulta sa kumpiskasyon ng milyun-milyong halaga ng mga imported na gulay at mga produkto na ilegal na ipinuslit sa bansa.
Nabatid na noong Oktubre 13, inimbestigahan ng BOC – Port of Manila sa pamamagitan ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) ang iba’t ibang illegally imported na mga sariwang gulay at iba pang commodities sa operasyong ikinasa sa dalawang bodega sa Tondo, Manila at Navotas.
Ang inspeksiyon sa Tondo ay nagresulta sa pagkakadiskubre ng posibleng misdeclared, misclassified, at undervalued na imported na mga gulay at iba pang goods na may estimated value na P35 milyon.
Noon namang Oktubre 14, kinumpiska ng BOC – Subic at ng Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) ang may P15 milyong halaga ng illegally imported na mga sariwang gulay. Batay sa mga ulat, ang mga smuggled fresh vegetables ay nadiskubre sa loob ng limang 40-footer container na idineklarang naglalaman ng mga frozen assorted vegetables.
Ayon kay Yap, kung hindi nakumpiska ng BOC ang mga naturang containers ay tiyak na bumabaha na ngayon sa mga lokal na pamilihan ang mga naturang smuggled vegetables at tiyak aniyang ang mga magsasaka natin ang siyang magdurusa sa naturang isyu ng smuggling.
“They should have not to compete with these smuggled vegetables as their produce should be our priority in terms of distribution and consumption,” ani Yap.
Labis naman ang pasalamat ni Yap sa BOC dahil sa mabilis na pagtugon ng mga ito sa kanilang apela na paigtingin pa ang kanilang mga operasyon upang maprotektahan ang mga lokal na magsasaka.
“We are grateful with the BOC who have consistently stepped up their surveillance operations to secure the country’s national borders and protect the government revenue. We appreciate that they heeded to our appeal for them to intensify their operations so we can protect our local farmers,” aniya pa.
“We also laud the BOC for their heightened efforts in the seizure of other smuggled items, particularly cars. The local car industry, including the legitimate car dealers, remain at the losing end when smuggled cars enter the country without proper documentation and payment of taxes. We are confident that under the leadership of Commissioner Guerrerro, the BOC cancan sustain these intensified operations so as to protect our local economy,” dagdag pa ni Yap.
