Student stabbed while playing basketball, dies

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – A student playing in an ongoing basketball game on a covered court here was pronounced dead a few hours after he was stabbed by three men for still unknown reasons on Sunday night.

Town police head Major Abraham Atencio said the victim was from Bantog St., Bgy. San Francisco died the next day after being rushed to the San Antonio District Hospital and later transferred to the Dr. PJGMRMC in Cabanatuan City for emergency medical treatment.

The three suspects who remain at large and are now the subject of hot pursuit operations by the police are all residents of Camias St., Bgy. San Francisco, this town.

According to witnesses John Patrick Gomez and Vladimir Castro, the victim was playing basketball in the covered court at about 10:45 p.m. when they noticed the suspects staring at them.

One suspect entered the basketball court and suddenly stabbed the victim at the side portion of his body using a pointed object, with the two other suspects serving as backup.

After the knife attack, the trio fled in an unknown direction.

Atencio said the victim’s mother reported the stabbing incident to the police the next day at 4:00 p.m. or about two hours after her son died at the hospital.
