RIZAL 4th District Rep. Fidel Nograles is pushing for the creation of a state university in Montalban that would address the educational needs of the most populous municipality in the country.

“As a 1st class municipality that continues to develop, Montalban has evolving needs. As we welcome more businesses we also need the more specialized training that universities provide for the youth so that they could fulfill the unique employment requirements demanded by various industries,” said Nograles.

House Bill (HB) 2590 seeks to convert the Colegio de Montalban and the University of Rizal System- Montalban Campus, both public institutions, into the University of Montalban.

According to Nograles, the planned state university will cater to Montalban residents and its neighboring communities.

Montalban is currently the most populous town in the Philippines, with 443,954 residents as of the 2020 census, and continues to see an influx of people due to sustained progress and relatively cheaper cost of living than nearby Metro Manila, the lawmaker added.

Nograles, who serves as the chair of the House committee on labor and employment, emphasized the necessity for a “holistic and expanded public university system” to respond to the people’s relevant and quality learning needs.

The Harvard-trained lawyer also said that the University of Montalban is a promise he made to his constituents.

“Nangako tayo na tutugunan natin ang mga pangunahing pangangailangan ng mga Montalbeño kagaya ng kalusugan at edukasyon,” said Nograles.

The Level 2, 200-bed capacity Northern Tagalog Regional Hospital (NTRH) that is currently being constructed, and the University of Montalban, are part of his efforts to fulfill his campaign promise, he added.
