
St. Benilde in fiery start vs Arellano
COLLEGE of Saint Benilde set in motion it’s bid for a fourth consecutive championship with a 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-17 win over Arellano University yesterday in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the San Sebastian Gym.
Former MVP Mycah Go had 17 points of 15-of-34 kills, eight digs and five receptions while Mary Grace Borromeo and Zam Nolasco added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Blazers rebounded from a third set loss to prevail.
Benilde, which extended its winning streak to 41 matches, is eyeing to become the first team since San Sebastian’s 2005-11 title run to win four consecutive crowns.
Laika Tudlasan led the Lady Chiefs with 17 points.
Jaja Tulang had 12 points, including two blocks, and six digs as Lyceum of the Philippines University defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College, 26-24, 25-15, 25-21, in the other women’s match.
In the men’s division, Rocky Motol dropped 25 points as Benilde bested Arellano, 25-22, 27-25, 27-29, 25-19, for a winning start.
