SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday said he has yet to receive any communication from Negros Oriental Rep. Arnie Teves after making an appeal for him to return to the country.

This was the response made by Romualdez after lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said that he was reaching out to the Speaker’s office to relay a very confidential message from Teves.

“I have yet to receive any communication from Cong. Arnie since I appealed to him to return home,” Romualdez said.

Topacio also said they have faith in the impartiality of Speaker Romualdez, who appealed to Teves to return and answer his alleged link to the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight others.

Romualdez said he “expects Cong. Arnie to heed my appeal and report for work as soon as possible. His stay outside the country is no longer authorized by the House of Representatives.”

Teves’ travel authority to the United States is covered only from February 28 to March 9, 2023.

The Speaker said the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) also assured the safety of Teves.

“Nagsalita na ang mga opisyal ng PNP. They are willing to provide security to protect him from bodily harm. All Cong. Arnie needs to do is make the appropriate request. Our law enforcers cannot extend this protection outside the Philippines,” Romualdez said.
