AUTHORITIES busted a gang of thieves known as the “Spaghetti Gang” responsible for the rampant stealing of cable wires of telecommunications (telco) companies following the arrest of nine suspects in Valenzuela City.

P/Lt. Robin Santos, chief of the Station Investigation Unit, said that while elements of Karuhatan Police Sub-Station-9 were patrolling on board a police mobile car at around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, they chanced upon the suspects cutting and pulling cable wires from a manhole in front of SM Mall in Brgy. Karuhatan, owned by PLDT telecommunications, loaded it inside a Mitsubishi Canter van driven by one of the suspects and in the compartment of a Toyota Vios driven by another cohort.

When P/SMSgt. Lauro Artates Jr, and P/SSgt. Wilbert Ugale, asked for the pertinent documents which proved they were allowed to carry out the job, but they failed to show any, prompting the police officers to invite them to the Valenzuela Police Station for further verification.

After authorities informed the “Bantay Kable” personnel of PLDT, the company’s representative stated and certified that the suspects were not their employees or private contractors, prompting policemen to place them under arrest.

Policemen recovered from the suspects more or less 322 meters of PLDT copper cable with a total amount of P393,974.72, two pieces of traffic cone with light, a hack saw, two hammers, a metal chain, and nylon rope.

Santos said the two vehicles used by the suspects in transporting the stolen cable were impounded and will also be used in filing theft charges against the gang before the Valenzuela Prosecutor’s Office.
