Sorsogon mayor jailed for human trafficking

POLICE Regional Office 5 Director Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo yesterday announced the arrest of the mayor of Juban, Sorsogon for a non-bailable human trafficking case.

In a report to Philippine National Police Chief Dionardo B. Carlos, the official identified the accused as Mayor Antonio Alindogan, the 63-year-old local chief executive of Juban municipality residing in Barangay Tughan.

Estomo said that the mayor was arrested by members of the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office under Colonel Arturo P. Brual on the strength of a warrant for three counts of violation of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2002 issued by Judge Zach Ziga of the Sorsogon City Regional Trial Court Branch 12.

The Bicol police director said that the accused was arrested in Barangay North Poblacion in Juban past 12 noon last Thursday and is now being held at the Juban Municipal Police Station pending the issuance of an official jail commitment order.
