THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) welcomed the ocular inspection of nine senators and members of the media Monday, February 6, 2023, at the Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) as part of the Senate Committee on Public Services’ inquiry on the ATMC “mechanical failure” that disrupted the country’s air traffic management system on January 1, 2023, New Year’s Day.

Participating in the inspection are Sen. Grace Poe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, Senate President Miguel Zubiri, Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, and Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

The inspection was led by CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Edgardo Diaz, Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas, Air Traffic Service (ATS) Chief Marlene Singson, and Air Navigation Service (ANS) Acting Chief Alex Balde.

The inspection allowed the lawmakers to tour the ATMC facility and the equipment involved in the power failure that caused a temporary halt in airspace movement.

“The CAAP wants to be proactive in helping resolve the issues within the country’s air traffic management system. We gladly welcome our senators to hopefully shed more light as to what happened on New Year’s Day. We believe that this collaborative event will allow our honorable senators to see areas of improvement that the CAAP and the Senate can work on together,” said Tamayo.
