House Deputy Speaker and Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera pays a courtesy call on Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Edgar Galvante at the LTO headquarters in Quezon City on Monday to personally deliver her letter endorsing a previous correspondence of PASAHERO Party-list regarding concerns affecting public utility drivers and operators, including their request to extend the validity of their driver’s license and motor vehicle certificate of registration (CR) for at least six months. PASAHERO founders Robert Nazal and Allan Yap accompanied Herrera in a meeting with Galvante.
Solon backs validity of TODA, jeepney drivers registration to 6 months
HOUSE Deputy Speaker Bernadette Herrera is throwing her weight behind the proposal to extend for six months the validity of expiring license and motor certificate of registration (CR) of tricycle drivers and operators and jeepney drivers nationwide.
Earlier, the Passengers and Riders Organization (PASAHERO) has written the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to ask for the six-month validity extension on behalf of members of tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA), as well as jeepney drivers.
It also urged the DOTr and LTO to look into other concerns raised by TODA members, such as license testing and special fee or rate for tricycle drivers.
Herrera, a representative from Bagong Henerasyon (BH), herself has written DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade – through LTO chief Edgar Galvante – to endorse the PASAHERO letters concerning the valid issues and concerns affecting the public utility tricycle drivers and operators comprising the so-called “tatlong gulong” sector.
Accompanied by Marlon Manalang, a nominee of BH, Herrera personally went to meet with Galvante to discuss the request.
The House leader said she found “these concerns pressing and proposed policy changes appropriate.”
“The Tatlong Gulong sector and jeepney drivers need these timely policy changes to help them cushion the impact of or slowly rise from the adverse financial effects of the lockdown and limited operations the past two years,” Herrera pointed out in her letter.
Herrera said she was looking forward to the prompt and favorable actions by the DOTr and LTO on the matter “for the upliftment of welfare of our tricycle drivers and operators as well as jeepney drivers all over the country.”
