Silang fiesta to feature street dancing, music fest

SILANG, Cavite – A colorful street dancing competition and music festival will be featured on the last part of the feast celebration of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria on February 3, 2023, with famous OPM (Original Pilipino Music) acts Side A and Mayonnaise bands that will perform together with Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) celebrity Jelay Pilones to be held at the new Silang Municipal Hall grounds in Barangay Biga 1 here.

After two years when the celebrations were temporarily stopped due to the entry of the COVID-19 pandemic, the colorful street dancing competition will return with a modern twist that will be filled with the talent of selected Silang schools, which will start at Cavite State University (CvSU) Silang Campus, Bgy. Biga 1 and to be held in the town proper on the last day of the town’s three-day festival.

It is certain that Silangueños will flock to participate and listen to the music of Joey Generoso of Side A and Monty Macalino (Mayonnaise) for the music festival.

The band Side A is famous for the songs “Forevermore”; “So Many Questions”; and “I’m Still Going”; while Mayonnaise is famous for the songs “Jopay”; “Tayo Na Lang Dalawa”; and “Kumander”.

February 2 will feature the grand parade and marching bands that will also be accompanied by beautiful floats prepared by the Silang local government unit (LGU) and various barangay clusters, and other businesses in the locality.

Thirteen public and private schools have prepared their colorful costumes and modern music to celebrate the upcoming “Sumilang Festival”.

“Serenata at Patio Medina” will feature musical bands Banda 93, Magdalene Band, San Roque Banda, and Carmona Symphonic Orchestra on Feb. 1, 2023.

Palarong Pinoy is a feature to revive the street games in every festival or when there is fun in a town like “Palo Sebo”; “Agawang Baboy”; “Hampas Palayok”; sack race, “Pabitin”; and tug of war with a prize worth P150,000 and five piglets on Jan. 31, 2023.

Twenty-five lovely candidates of “Binibining Silang” who represented their barangay will vie for the crown of “Ms. Silang 2023” on its coronation night that will be held on the grounds of the new municipal hall on Jan. 30, 2023.

A tree planting activity and clean-up drive will be held at the new municipal hall grounds on Jan. 29.

Part of the tradition every time the Feast of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria comes is the gathering of various organizations for a night of greetings and dancing.

“Silangueño’s Night” on Jan. 28 is being brought back, and it will be held before the festival that will be attended by the people of Silang. This occasion will also include compatriots coming home from different countries to have fun and dance on the day of the festival.

There will be a Balagtasan, Beki boxing, and Agri Trade Fair at Patio Medina on Jan. 27, an online raffle on Jan. 26 with the top prize of a Nmax Yamaha motorcycle, Apple iPad tablet, and “hakot” challenge.

Buntis Congress will be on Jan. 25, and the Silang LGU will offer free laboratory and consultation.

A health promotion program that includes parental care/post-natal care for moms, responsible parenthood and family planning, Nutrition: First “1000” days exclusive breastfeeding, and PhilHealth assistance.

There will also be free laboratory services such as CBC (complete blood count), urinalysis, blood typing, syphilis screening, Hepatitis B screening, RT-PCR, and HIV screening and testing prepared by the Office of the Mayor and Silang Rural Health Unit (RHU).

On Jan. 24, Silangueños availed free consultation during a medical and legal mission held at Patio Medina offered by the Office of the Silang Mayor and Provincial Government of Cavite, Provincial Health Office, and Silang MHO (Municipal Health Office), including proper oral and teeth care for 100 daycare students.

Senior citizens and persons with comorbidities got free flu vaccines, including residents under the age of 50.
