A 35-YEAR-OLD security guard is facing multiple criminal charges following his arrest for alleged possession of firearm, wearing a tactical black PNP uniform with insignia and ignoring a police checkpoint Thursday in Malabon City.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot said operatives of Police Sub-Station 3 led by P/Lt. Joseph Alcazar were conducting police checkpoint in line with S.A.F.E. NCRPO at the corner of M.H. Del Pilar Avenue and Yanga St. at around 3:40 a.m. when they flagged down a red motorcycle driven by Mark Joseph Pelayo, 35, of 016 Gate 17, Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila, who was wearing PNP uniform with insignia.

Instead of stopping, the suspect sped away towards Brgy. Tinajeros, prompting members of Tactical Motorcycle Riders Unit (TMRU) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams to give chase until they cornered him at the Shell gas station in Brgy. Tugatog.

When frisked, Pelayo yielded a caliber .9mm pistol without serial number, with magazine loaded with 10 live ammunition tucked in his waist, using a black holster.

Col. Barot said the suspect failed to show the necessary documents for the firearm and ammunition when asked by the police which led to his arrest.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director P/BGen. Jonnel Estomo lauded the Malabon City Police for the arrest of Pelayo who was charged for violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act, Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority and Illegal use of Uniform and Insignia before the Malabon City Prosecutor’s Office.
