THE National Capital Region Police Office headed by Brigadier General Anthony A. Aberin yesterday said they registered a 19.61 percent decrease in the total number of 8 Focus Crimes in Metro Manila from January 1 to 31 compared to the same period in 2024.

The official credited the significant reduction of index crimes to their ‘Able, Active and Allied’ or AAA policing approach which ensures maximum and continuing police visibility around the metropolis round-the-clock.

“These programs are anchored on the goal of having a police force that can be truly seen, heard and felt by the community. This can also be very well attributed to the aggressive and relentless conduct of police operations against criminals especially in the fight against illegal drugs, loose firearms, illegal gambling and wanted persons,” Brig. Gen. Aberin said.

According to the official, the timely arrest of these lawless elements contributes to crime reduction as it prevents them from attacking more targets in the streets.

He also attributed the huge crime volume reduction to their strict implementation of local ordinances like drinking in public and curfew for minors.

Brig. Gen. Aberin noted that one of the most significant reductions in index crimes in Metro Manila last month involved rape cases which dropped by 46.49 percent while physical injuries fell by 37.14 percent.

Homicide cases also went down by 28.57 percent; incidents of murder declined by 17.65 percent and theft, which is the most prevalent among the 8 Focus Crimes in the metropolis last month, also saw a 23.05 percent reduction.

“These figures reflect NCRPO’s proactive crime prevention measures and sustained efforts to disrupt criminal activities before they occur,” said the official.

Brig. Gen. Aberin emphasized that crime prevention remains their top priority as he reminded his men to continue performing their job with competence, professionalism and credibility.
