PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered a study for the grant of interest subsidies to poor households availing of low-cost housing under the administration’s Pambansang Pabahay sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) program.

The President issued the order during his meeting with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and other concerned agencies at the Malacañan Palace last Tuesday.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, DHSUD said that aside from granting a sovereign guarantee for 4PH projects, the government is also looking into providing subsidies to reduce amortizations.

“So dalawa po. Dito po sa front end, when we construct nandiyan po ang sovereign guarantee ng ating gobyerno para mas mabilis lumabas ang pondo from the private sector. Mas mabilis po ang pagpapatayo,” DHSUD Undersecretary Avelino Tolentino III said.

“Kapag po naipatayo ang ating pabahay, doon naman po sa amortization. Lalagyan po natin ng subsidy. So iyon po ang numerong pong iyon ang ating pinaglalaruan for the next several years so that we’re able to determine how much **will government commit** for both the guarantee for developmental loans and for the subsidy to reduce amortizations,” he added.

DSHUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said President Marcos approved in principle the issuance of sovereign guarantees until 2028 to cover the developmental loans that will finance and expedite the construction of housing units under the 4PH program.

The government is currently targeting to complete 1.2 million units by 2028, according to DHSUD Undersecretary Garry de Guzman.

“But we also have a target of 3.2 (million) by 2028, depending on the result of the subsidy, the guarantee and the capacity of the government to provide the subsidy,” he said.

“But we will be sticking to, we will first deliver the 1.2 up to 2028 and then when there’s an increase in the capacity of government, then, we will scale it up and hopefully, we will achieve 3.2,” he added. PCO
