IT is certainly heartening to know that the administration of President Marcos is determed to come up with more programs to benefit the country’s senior citizens.

Presidenr Marcos made the announcement himself when he led last Wednesday’s distribution of cash gifts to a group of senior citizens.

During the distribiton of the cash gifts, which was held at Malacanang, Marcos paid tribute to the sacrifices of these elderly Filipinos.

We share the of the Ilocano Chief Executive that there’s that need to ensure the well-being of our aging countrymen.

“Talagang hindi matatawaran ang naging kontribusyon ng ating mga matatanda para mapabilis ang ating socio-economic development,” according to a village official.

In the Philippines, people aged 60 years old and above are considered elderly or senior citizens.

The official 2020 Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Population Census shows 9,242,121 senior citizens.

Of the number, close to one million Filipinos (950,000) were octogenarians and nonogenarians, said PSA.

We also agree with President Marcos that our senior citizens should no longer experience any hardship after everyting they have gone through.
