Senate on total lockdown, more senators COVID positive

IT’S total lockdown at the Senate this coming Monday, August 22.

No less than Senate President Miguel “Migz” Zubiri confirmed the lockdown, citing the fact that at least eight senators were confirmed to have tested positive including senate staff and personnel.

Zubiri instructed the senate secretariat to conduct thorough cleaning and disinfection of all senate offices as he confirmed that all senate employees shall work from home starting Monday but the session, he said, will resume on Tuesday, August 23.

“I have instructed the Senate Secretariat to conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of all Senate offices. It will be a total lockdown of our Senate building and all Senate employees shall work from home and need not report to the Senate on Monday,” Zubiri said.

Senator Imee Marcos has aborted her planned trip abroad as she is scheduled to go to Dubai this coming weekend to greet Filipinos who will be watching the “Maid in Malacanang” film which is scheduled for showing by August 19 or 20.

Senator Nancy Binay who confirmed that she is COVID-19 positive said it is her decision to go into self-isolation.

“After more than two years of consciously observing all protocols to avoid the virus, it is unfortunate that yesterday (August 18), I tested positive for COVID-19. I am currently at home in isolation, and strictly following recommended protocols, including health and safety procedures,” Binay said in a statement.
