SEA Games veteran delivers two bronze medals for PH team
SOUTHEAST Asian Games gold medalist Kristel Macrohon captured two bronze medals in the women’s 76 kg. category of the Asian Weightlifting Championships Thursday night in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
With a total lift of 225 kgs., Macrohon placed third behind Zhang Wangli of China, who won the gold with 263 kgs. and Kim Suhyeon of South Korea, who produced 244 kgs. for the silver.
The 24-year old Macrohon also achieved a podium finish in the clean and jerk with 126 kgs. Zhang emerged victorious with 148 kgs, 10 clear off Kim.
The Philippines hiked its medal haul to two golds, six silvers and three bronzes in the continental tournament, which saw the country’s best hope Hidilyn Diaz achieve her fourth straight Olympic stint.
Rising star Vanessa Sarno bagged two gold medals in the women’s 71 kg. division, while Elreen Ando added two silver medals in the women’s 64 kg division.
Mary Flor Diaz bagged silver medals in the women’s 45 kg., while John Fabuar Ceniza claimed the men’s 61 kg. bronze.
