SEA Games champions at Sports On Air

SPORTS On Air continues to pay tribute to the country’s leading performers in the recent Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi in its newest episode on Saturday, May 28.

SEA Games weightlifting gold medalist Vanessa Sarno, fencing champion Samantha Kyle Catantan and chess silver winner GM Darwin Laylo will talk about their triumphs during the 10:30 a.m. program hosted by Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight and Ernest Hernandez of Sports On Air.

Sarno, considered as the heir apparent to Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, set new records of 104kg in the snatch, 135kg in the clean and jerk, and 239kg total in ruling the women’s 71kg division.

Catantan, the former University of the East standout, clinched the gold in the women’s individual foil and silver in the women’s team event.

Laylo teamed-up with IM Paulo Bersamina to bring home a silver medal in chess.

This will be the 22nd episode for the year of Sports On Air, the newest and hottest sports program dedicated to promoting Filipino heroes in the wonderful world of sports.

Last week, Sports On Air featured the success of gold medalist Mary Francine Padios (pencak silat), silver medalist Mac Valdez (beach handball) and bronze medalist Al Llamas (kurash)
Joining the panelists are veteran journalists Gerard Arce of Abante, Ivan Saldajeno of Philippine News Agnecy, Gab Fererras, Jean Malanum of the Manila Times and Danny Simon of Police Files.
