CHIEF Justice Alexander Gesmundo has recognized the support and contribution of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to the reform initiatives of the court, that includes the recently approved Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).

Speaking as guest of honor at the 25th Regional Convention of the IBP Bicolandia Region at the Villa Caceres Hotel in Naga City, Gesmundo emphasized that the IBP is a major partner of the high court, and has strongly cooperated in the continuous development of legal practice in the country.

Gesmundo stressed that the IBP has been a strong partner of the Court since its inception in upholding integrity and excellence in the legal profession.

The CPRA, launched on April 13 at the Manila Hotel, was not just a mere revision of the lawyer’s code, but an overhaul on the approach and attitude by lawyers of their ethical responsibility in the new era of law practice, according to the Chief Justice.

He stressed that the CPRA distilled the core values underpinning the practice of the legal profession and provided an encompassing guide in the conduct of professional lives.

Gesmundo noted that the CPRA captures the core values that all in the legal profession must embody, including Independence, Propriety, Fidelity, Competence, Diligence, Equality, and Accountability.

In attendance at the event were former Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo, Justice Rodil V. Zalameda, and Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan.
